I agree but most criticisms in melon and other charts for Savage is for their lyrics lol. That feels so much more interesting to me. They have their own character, and they feel very aespa. They break the mold for girl groups, they're intense, they're angry, they're story-based.
The thing I love most about aespa's lyrics is that they're interesting and they stand out. But if their lyrics are so terrible and cringy then why are their songs consistently topping korean charts now? It's not like the korean general public is familiar with their lore either, so clearly you don't have to fully understand the lore to be into their songs. Some people even say that they're glad they don't understand korean so they don't have to get the lyrics when they listen to aespa songs.
When was the last time you've heard a kpop group, and particularly a girl group, come out with a title track who's lyrics weren't either another basic love song, a confidence anthem, or maybe just bragging? My question is: aren't most kpop lyrics cringy or at least cheesy? Let's be honest: lyrics have never been a strong point for kpop, and particularly when it comes to title tracks. People say that the lore is too complicated and doesn't make sense (which, fair enough, but you don't really need to get it for it to still sound cool), but more importantly, I've seen a lot of people criticize them for having cringy lyrics.
